Fall Photo Dump

Play time. Wren seems to be more aware of her surroundings and will now watch Harper as he plays. It's going to be so much fun to see them grow up together.

Out for a fall walk. Sometimes when the emotions are high in the afternoon, a walk is just what we need. This walk happened to put Harper to sleep after refusing to take a nap for hours earlier.

Last week we went to the Children's Museum Halloween party with our friends the Hollerans. It was a great time with tons of little kids running around in cute costumes.

Harper's 2 1/2 "un-birthday"

2 1/2 already! Harper has grown up and changed so much even since the beginning of summer. His vocabulary is exploding, and he's talking in sentences. He's starting to say things that are funny and worth writing down, otherwise I forget when trying to tell Joshua over dinner. For example, he asked me the other day if I could do something, to which I replied I can't and said he should do it. Harper then said, "Do you maybe want to try actually?" I guess I'd better start being careful about what I say I "can't" do and what I don't want to do. He has a lively imagination so when we play everything is alive and can talk. He will pantomime when something is absent (like a steering wheel), and he has a fabulous memory. Just tonight he recited the first couple pages of the book "Cars and Trucks and Things That Go" without even opening the cover. Potty training is going very well. It's rare he has an accident now. He still throws tantrums, is sometimes not very nice to his friends, and always asks for 5 more minutes when he wants to stall or delay, but overall he is a very good boy. 

The pictures in this post show him in his new winter coat I just finished making. He loves looking at the little cars and robots. It should be pretty warm too, as it has a thicker cotton exterior with wind block fleece lining. I love how it turned out and think he does too since he actually tried it on for me.

Wren at 2 months

Looking back at Harper's 2 month check up, Wren and Harper are very similar in their measurements and are exactly the same for weight. Kind of crazy. I knew they were very similar but not this close. Wren was a champ getting her first set of immunizations. She cried of course, but afterwards quickly fell asleep. She has a slight flat spot on the back of the right side of her head, but it should get better as she spends more time on her tummy and sitting up. As far as sleeping, she is now taking a couple long naps along with a couple short naps during the day and sleeping from around 8pm-7am...waking up 2-3 times. She has had a couple nights where she only woke up once.

She has a beautiful smile that melts our hearts, and her coos are pretty adorable too. Joshua video recorded her smiling and cooing tonight so we won't forget. It's hard to remember to record these things the second time around, and they grow up so fast. Harper loves his little sister and often gives her hugs and kisses. He thinks it is funny when she swats at the hanging toys and hits them. He also likes to tell us when she's "marching," which usually means she is getting upset. Wren has taken one bottle successfully from Josh. We'll have to be intentional about offering her bottles since I'm staying home. I want to make sure Joshua and Wren are comfortable together if I'm ever gone.

Terrible Twos

So to keep things real around here, I thought I'd share this screen shot with you. Harper was having a typical meltdown and refusing to nap (after falling asleep in the car but waking up upon getting home). Not knowing what to do, I tried having Josh talk to him to no avail. Harper won the battle and is now playing. Let's hope the evening isn't a train wreck and that he goes to bed early. The "twos" are truly terrible. Even though he is also sweet and fun at this stage, I'm looking forward to this stage being over.
