A much needed Saturday

Today I had the WHOLE day off of work of any kind! PLUS my mom was in town with my dad (she tagged along while he had a conference to attend at Concordia University), so my mom and I got to hang out all morning and afternoon! We all started the morning off with waffles, and after my dad left for his conference, my mom and I headed off to shop at Treadle Yard Goods. My mom wants to make me a diaper bag, but we hadn’t yet found any fabric. Well, we found some! The brown background one above is the exterior fabric, and the lime green one is the lining and pockets fabric. The greens are actually closer in shade then they appear. We also found a great big button to match perfectly to put on the closure tab. It’s going to be the most fantastic diaper bag and everyone is going to want one! Oh, and later when my dad asked what we did and my mom replied with, “well, we found some fabric!,” he just answered with, “I can’t imagine.” Ha! So true. Although he should be proud, we did restrain ourselves. I’m so excited to see it all put together! Thank you mom!

After our small spree at the fabric store, we headed to Baby on Grand and then to The Pacifier, both local baby stores that we have a registry at. It was fun to browse all sorts of baby essentials, non-essentials, and just plain cute baby stuff! We again restrained ourselves and didn’t buy anything. I don’t think I would be able to say that if we knew whether our baby is a boy or girl...they had so many adorable clothes at the Pacifier!

All this shopping naturally made us very hungry, so we walked across the street in NE Minneapolis to a saloon called “Whitey’s” for lunch. We were overwhelmed with the portions, but the food was delicious! We had hummus, fresh tapenade and pita for an appetizer...yum! For our entrées, we both had marinated roast beef sandwiches with au jus, mild peppers, french fries, and fresh fruit. So good. 

My parents left not long after my dad’s conference ended at 2pm. They have a Civil Air Patrol banquet this evening in Mankato to attend. Not long after they left, Josh got home from work. It seems we haven’t had an evening off together in a very very long time because we are still trying to figure out what we want to do. I suppose I should finish this post so the evening doesn’t pass us by!

green baby

So I was at The Wedge co-op in Minneapolis today and just couldn’t resist buying this little sippy cup. Isn’t it cute?! Most things now-a-days are BPA free, but I like that this bottle is stainless steel and has a wider mouth so it’ll be easier to clean. I even had a coupon good for $2 off from the Minneapolis-based Blue Sky Guide. Once our kid is old enough to not use a sippy, you can even get different caps for it. I think I need one in my size. ;)

The other thing I wanted to share with you that is non-baby related is something I stumbled upon walking from our garage to the backdoor:

It seems a bird made a snow angel! (Keep in mind I got home after dark so the lighting isn’t the best on this one.) I’m very curious as to what it was like for this bird to create such an impression. Did it bellyflop out of the tree? Or maybe it just thought such an activity would be brighten its day. Rest assured there was no dead bird or sign of cats on the premises!

29 weeks and counting...

Last week was my 28 week appointment, complete with glucose test and everything. I’m happy to say I passed the glucose test with flying colors! No gestational diabetes here. Babu is doing great and has a strong heartbeat. Josh and I read yesterday that our baby is measuring over 14 inches and weighs almost 3 lbs. I now have appointments every two weeks until the last month when I’ll go in every week. I can’t believe we’re already to this point in the pregnancy. It seems that my belly is bigger every other day now. Crazy! I’ve been feeling pretty good lately, although I’ve been getting somewhat stiff and sore at night. I haven’t yet bought a body pillow, so I’ve been thinking about doing that to see if it helps.

I’ve also been more tired these past couple of days. I suppose I should try to get to bed earlier, but there are so many things to do! I think I’ll go work on a couple of those things now so I can still hit the sack at a decent hour.

Oh! And for those of you who don’t know yet, Babu’s baptism is planned for May 9th at Bethlehem Lutheran Church here in Minneapolis! I’ve discovered since setting the date that the 9th is also Mother’s Day! It’s going to be one special day. We can’t wait!

Finally back to some sewing

Last night was the first Friday night in quite a while that I was able to go down to the Quilter’s Haven for open quilting/sewing (some even bring knitting!). It was great to see and chat with many people I hadn’t been around in a while including Kristi who brought her new baby girl that they recently adopted. Brynne is such a great baby! She was so cute and pretty much never made a fuss, although she does like to try to “talk!” Brynne and her mommy were even still there when I left shortly before midnight.

I got a couple projects done that have been waiting to be finished for quite a while. The table cloth above was super easy and didn’t take long to make. I bought the fabric while in Carroll with my sister and Aaron this past November. I love the pattern and colors! I think I will take note of the dimensions I used because it fits like a glove. I plan on finding more great fabrics to make additional table cloths for all seasons and occasions. I think it will work better on our modest sized table than place mats, plus it’s less expensive and time consuming!

I also finished a bag (pictured below) I’ve been meaning to finish since last summer. It’s for a friend I used to nanny for. She loved the one I made for myself, so I told her I would make her one...I think I told her that a year and a half ago! Better late than never I suppose. The bag is a pattern by Amy Butler called Birdie Sling and is super cute! I love how this one turned out.

I hope I have more Friday evenings to make it down to the shop. I always get so much more done there than at home. There are lots of things I’d like to finish before Babu arrives, and that timeline is getting shorter!

Rock-a-bye Baby

Well, I’m finally getting around to posting a couple pictures of our newest preparations. We found the rocking chair for a great price a couple weeks ago and are really happy with it. It’s very sturdy, comfy, and will look great in our living room once we complete our furniture and decor. The chair reclines and has multi-position locking! The ottoman has a “nursing footstool” that extends from underneath for those times you want it to be more stationary. It’s super awesome.

We also set up the crib! Josh is impressed with how large it is compared to how small an infant is. I reminded him our baby will sleep there through the toddler years (it converts!), but it does look pretty big! As you can see, I need to hang up the wall hanging that is draping on the front of the crib, but the wall it is going on is cement plaster so I need to find a way of hanging it other than by using nails.

Our home is coming together to accommodate our little one’s arrival. There’s lots to do yet! Maybe I should work on taking down the Christmas tree today...

26 Weeks

It’s hard to believe so many weeks have already passed! Josh and I have started preparing our home for little Babu, starting with putting together the dresser and crib. Unfortunately, putting together these pieces of furniture has shifted all the other items that used to be in the room into our living room, porch and basement. All the boxes and clutter makes it look like we’re moving. I hope we can reorganize and clean all of this up before April!

I’ve been feeling pretty good still...that is, other than this one spot along my rib cage. It’s become constantly sore and feels as if it’s bruised on the inside. Sometimes the spot goes numb and feels more like it’s burning. I’m guessing something has just been pushed or pinched, but it sure hurts sometimes!

Babu seems to be doing really well and is certainly an active little baby! It’s such a joy to feel him/her wiggling around. Josh and I are pretty set on a girl’s name (although I’m not going to disclose what it is!) but are still trying to come up with a boy’s name. I love not knowing whether we are having a boy or a girl. The suspense makes the anticipation that much greater!

26 Weeks
