Baby Girl Jagdfeld

One thing that's very different this time around from being pregnant with Harper is that we already have our little girl's name pretty much set. And by pretty much, I mean 99% sure...with 1% wiggle room in the rare chance we change our minds. Josh was gracious enough to give me the majority of say in the matter since he picked out Harper's name, but I'm super glad he loves the name too. As far as sharing what our darling little girl's name will be...well, you'll just have to wait until she's here!
Prenatal Appointment Week 24:
I've gained 8 lbs. from my pre-pregnancy weight and my belly is measuring right on track. Baby's heartbeat is around 145 bpm. Her ultrasound review and measurements look normal and healthy. Our midwife gave us some ideas for childbirth refresher courses, which we plan on taking within the next month or so.
Prenatal Appointment Week 27:
Joshua and Harper stayed home for this one since it included the hour long glucose test. Everything is still looking really good. I passed the glucose test, didn't need the Rh- shot since my blood type is O+, baby girl seems healthy and happy. The only thing I need to be more aware of is my iron intake. I guess my iron level is lower than they like, but at least that is easy to take care of. Josh and I went to our first childbirth class last night, so we're definitely starting to think and plan more for the big day. We found a couple free "topic nights" put on by the Childbirth Collective. Last night's was titled Natural Rhythms of Childbirth. We found it to be very accurate and a good refresher. We have one more coming up in a couple weeks and also have a meet the midwives event and hospital tour next week. It's hard to believe this was my last monthly prenatal appointment and will now start seeing the midwives every couple weeks. I also just finished pre-registering at the hospital (St. Joe's in St. Paul). Oh, and baby seems to be head down! Hopefully she will stay that way.
Prenatal Appointment Week 30:
Everything is still looking just fine. We chatted about all the braxton hick contractions I've been having and about fast labors, just in case baby girl arrives faster than Harper did (just under 6 hours!). I didn't gain any weight since my 27 week appointment, but the midwife wasn't worried, and I remember this happening with Harper too...my weight gain seems to go in spurts. At least my belly is measuring right on track with how many weeks along I am. Baby is still head down. Josh and I attended the Comfort Measures in Childbirth class through the Childbirth Collective last Monday and found it very helpful, much more helpful than the class we took last time at the hospital. It's getting close to time to start thinking about our hospital bag and making sure we have what we need. I've already placed one amazon order and will probably place another one soon. It's so much easier to shop online with free shipping than to take a toddler to the store.
Prenatal Appointment Week 32:
Baby girl is still growing strong. The midwife did do a fetal fibronectin test to be sure all the Braxton Hick contractions I've been having aren't pointing towards preterm labor. The test came back negative so we are reassured by that. I guess my body is just being diligent about preparing for birth. I also haven't gained much of any weight in the past month, so the midwife suggested I eat more proteins and more calories since I assured her I was eating three good meals a day plus at least two snacks. It'll probably be the only time in my life where I'm encouraged to eat spoonfuls of peanut butter. :)
Prenatal Appointment Week 36:
I'm now down to weekly appointments. I did gain weight between my 32nd and 34th weeks, but not between my 34th and 36th weeks. My midwife didn't seem concerned and just encouraged me to continue doing what I'm doing and eat lots of foods with protein and iron. Baby is sounding great and is in the preferred position. I have developed an uncomfortable, itchy rash this week, which could be PUPPPs (a pregnancy related rash) that will go away once baby is born. Thankfully I'm able to take an antihistamine both during the day and at night to help relieve the symptoms. I've read this rash is usually found on your belly first and then spreads to your extremities, but mine started on my ears and neck, so I'm not sure if this is really what it is. Hopefully it won't get worse. I've started packing a hospital bag and readying things for the big day. We just picked up the bassinet my parents bought baby girl today, so that's ready to go. All in all, things are coming together...only 4 weeks or so left!
Prenatal Appointment Week 38:
Well, the rash got worse so the midwife ordered a blood test to test for a couple of things, just in case it is cholestasis of pregnancy, but it's not. Both tests were negative. Thank goodness. Not a whole lot else to report from this appointment. Everything looks good. Baby sounds good. I'm measuring right on track. We're super excited to meet our little girl and are now just playing the waiting game. Not too much longer now!
Prenatal Appointment Week 39:
Not much to report. Baby girl is doing well and has a heartbeat of about 138 bpm. I'm 1cm dialated and 50% effaced. I had a lot of pre-labor contractions this past week, usually in the middle of the night, so it's good to know my body is well prepared.

There are very few things we need this time around, especially since we left Harper's gender a surprise and have all neutral newborn items. However, there are a couple things we need and a few other things that would be nice to have. Since a couple people have already asked, I've put together a registry through Amazon. Some of the items are from Amazon's site and others are through a couple different places. It's nice Amazon lets us compile them all in one place.
