Heartburn & Flutters

My latest not so great pregnancy symptom: heartburn.

My oh so wonderful new experience: Babu flutters!

I’ve wondered here and there if these tiny little odd feelings were Babu, but I wasn’t quite sure. Well, tonight I am marking it in the baby book that today is the first day I actually felt Babu moving around inside of me. This whole experience is so miraculous and amazing. It’s still hard to believe that a little human being is being formed inside of me at this very moment. I can’t wait to meet him/her! Our next prenatal appointment is the day before Thanksgiving, after which we will have pictures to post of our precious Babu! 

Weekend In Iowa

Josh and I took a short road trip this weekend to Westside, Iowa where my sister and her husband live. It was the first time we visited them since they bought their new home! Westside is a tiny little town (they don’t even post a population) but is in between Carroll and Denison, which are both towns of larger size and are where Kristen and Aaron work and do their shopping. We weren’t able to head down on Friday until after work, so we finally rolled into their driveway somewhere between 11pm and Midnight.

Saturday morning was a lazy one. We just hung our around their house, chatted, put up some new curtain rods and drapes, made a yummy breakfast and later lunch, and baked chocolate chip cookies. :) Later in the afternoon we went to Carroll and visited some of the shops. Josh found a couple pair of jeans, and I got a piece of amazing fabric to make a table cloth. We then headed back to Westside and played Ticket to Ride before heading to Denison for dinner.

We went to the local favorite, “El Jimador” for dinner. The staff at Kristen’s school frequent the restaurant once a week so all the servers know them and what drinks they want and what they order to eat. April even asked to order some food to go for her son and the waiter came back with exactly what he would want. Amazing! I guess that’s what happens when you live in a small community. The food was good, and it was great to get to know a couple of Kristen and Aaron’s friends. 

After dinner we headed back to the house to watch the movie UP. Josh and I had watched it earlier in the week, but it is a good movie so we didn’t mind. I also took the time to finish hand quilting one of the wall-hangings for Babu’s room (I just finished the second one last night!). 

Sunday morning we went to the early service at their church, toured Kristen’s school and classrooms, and then hit the road to head home. I drove most of the way home as Josh was exhausted after not sleeping well the night before. We had a one-in-a-million run in with our friends, Bryan and Kari, while driving North on 35W. Bryan passed us but then slowed down as Kari waved wildly to catch our attention. They were driving back from visiting Bryan’s sister. We pulled off at an exit and grabbed a quick bite to eat. It was so fun to see them on such a rare occasion!

All in all, it was a fun and relaxing weekend. Thanks Kristen and Aaron for hosting us!

The Belly Has Arrived!

Well, my pants are getting tight and my shirts a little ill-fitting. It won’t be long until I’ll need to buy one of those belly bands! I haven’t felt babu yet, but sense that will come soon. Josh is nagging me about getting to bed. I’ve been pretty tired this week, so I’d better listen and make this post a short one. Goodnight!

Dining Room Project

I forgot to share this with you earlier, but better late then never! My mom came to stay with us for a couple of nights a few weeks ago so we could work on the slipcovers you see on the chairs in the picture. We had a really great time, and my mom treated us too well. I had to work during the day, but my mom stayed busy putting dinner in the crock pot, sewing, shopping, cleaning, etc. (Including many things I should have done like clean the bathroom). Thanks mom! In the afternoon she came to my office, met my coworkers, and took me out to lunch to a delicious little cafe called the French Meadow Bakery. They have the best tomato basil soup!

Josh had to work during the evening, but my friend Jamie joined us for dinner. Mom made cheesy broccoli soup. It was some of the best soup I’ve ever had! Not only did it have broccoli and cheese in it but also red potatoes and shredded carrots among other ingredients. It was so colorful I wish I took a picture of it to show you! I asked her for the recipe, but of course she didn’t use one. I told her she’d have to write it down next time she made it. After dinner we continued to work on putting the slipcovers together. At the time I was still pretty low on energy, so I went to bed before they were finished. My mom of course stayed up until they were all sewn together and then stayed up even later chatting with Josh after he got home from work.

It’s nice to have the covers on the chairs so I don’t have to worry about staining the seat fabric. Josh says it looks girly, so I told him the next set will be “manly” slipcovers. Maybe I’ll get around to those next year! Right now I have plenty of other unfinished projects to work on.

16 Weeks

I am now 16 weeks pregnant, and Babu is still growing strong! We had our third prenatal appointment yesterday morning. We really like our doctor. She’s personable and never seems to be in a rush. It was really funny when she was feeling my uterus because she said it “felt big.” I’m guessing she meant it felt big compared to what she usually feels at 16 weeks. She said this could be one of three things: 1. I’m further along then they thought. 2. Since I’m “thin” and haven’t been pregnant this far before, it could just be the way I go through pregnancy. OR 3. “You could be having twins!” I didn’t think number three was a very likely option, especially since we had an ultrasound at 7 weeks that showed only one baby blob in my belly. Our doctor said she would feel stupid if we discovered twins at 20 weeks when she had been telling us otherwise. So after listening to the heartbeat, she took us to another room where she did a quick ultrasound! Even though I was pretty sure we weren’t having twins, I wasn’t going to argue with a chance to see our baby! There is only one Babu, and Josh and I both were amazed with how much Babu looked like a little person squirming around inside of me. Our doctor showed us everything from the perfectly looking spine to the kicking feet to what looked like Babu chewing bubble gum. Our next appointment is on November 25th, just before I gain a few pounds at Thanksgiving. :) This is when we have our scheduled ultrasound and when they will print out pictures for us to share.
