Last Wednesday I took off to visit my friend Jennifer in Utah for an extended weekend. We had such a great time and saw so many things! Our first couple days were spent in Moab. We spent a day at Canyonlands (above picture: Mesa Arch) and hiked to various viewpoints and formations. Our second day at Arches National Park was even more adventurous. We hiked 6.5 miles in Devil's Garden and another 3 miles to Delicate Arch. We took the long hike first and roughed it by hiking the primitive trail. By primitive, they meant out in the exposed desert amongst the rock fins and sand. We even had to do some bouldering!

Even though we were exhausted by the end of the hike, it was so neat to be off the main path exploring the landscape. We did see some wildlife, but thankfully just the harmless lizards and rabbits.

After our long, rugged hike, we totally felt like going back to the hotel and napping for a couple hours. Instead, we decided to push on and hike out to Delicate Arch (above picture). It's only the most famous arch in Utah, so we figured we shouldn't skip it. I'm glad it was late in the afternoon because the trail is basically 1.5 miles up the side of the largest rock I have ever seen! There was hardly any vegetation and no shade. The day after our outdoor adventures was spent driving back to Salt Lake and resting. Other than going out to dinner at an amazing Spanish restaurant named Cafe Madrid, we watched a movie, took a nap, and took it easy. Sunday we woke early and went downtown to experience the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

After the broadcast, we didn't spend too much time downtown other than to take some pictures with the flowers and temple. It was so WINDY! Instead, we did some shopping and picked up some groceries. Jenni is a fabulous cook, so for the next few meals we had gourmet dining at home and a formal tea the next morning for breakfast.
